Picture, People at Worship
The church exists first to offer worship (honour) to God and to thank him for the gifts he gives us, and secondly to honour and support each other because we're all fellow creatures of God, and so by honouring each other we honour him too.

As well as the Seasons and Major Festivals which help us worship God, the church celebrates several 'Special Days' throughout the year to remember, honour and support each other and our work in God's world. Racial Justice Sunday has been observed since 1995 on the second Sunday of September. (Return to top)

Migration of people is now an established part of world globalisation, and this Special Day uses many of the references in the Bible concerning the migration of people in the past, as well as the diversity of peoples throughout the world. Racial Justice is an appropriate concern for Christians since Jesus himself prayed that we would all be one (John 17:22-23). (Return to top)

The organisation 'Churches Together in Britain and Ireland' provide prayers, readings and hymns for adults and children to use both in church and groups on this day. But besides the special day, 'Churches Together' has a Racial Justice Network to help fight racial injustice and to support peoples' needs throughout the year. (Return to top)
